The Bill still has to go through two more legislative processes before going to Governor Chris Christie to sign the Bill into Law. These two processes are (1.) A House Vote approved by a majority of the authorized members (21 votes in the Senate, 41 in the Assembly) and is sent to the other House. (2.) Second House - The bill is delivered to the second House where it goes through the same process. If the second House amends the bill, it is returned to the first House for a vote on the changes if any. Read on to watch video....
The bill will then receive final legislative approval when it passes both Houses in identical form. This should still be a fast process though as it has now been received back in the Assembly and referred to the "Assembly Regulatory Oversight and Gaming Committee". New Jersey seems to be fast tracking this Bill through its processes now.
This Bill should go fairly well and fast through the Assembly and we do not see Governor Christie vetoing it once it is in his hands. He is truly a proponent of getting his State of New Jersey back in the black. This Bill once signed into Law and implemented will certainly help his State in doing exactly that. Governor Christie was sworn in as New Jersey's 55th Governor on January 19, 2010.
This Bill has been a long time coming for the USA and once it is 'Signed into Law' gamblers that live within the State of New Jersey as well as International punters will soon be able to place 'Online Wagers' over the Internet to be played out at casinos located in Atlantic County, N.J. or for the most part at casinos located in the city of Atlantic City.
As we had previously reported in our Senator Lesniak Article, that Senator Raymond Lesniak (D - Union Co. N.J.) had originally introduced this S490 Bill in the Senate House back in January of this year. It went through several different committees before it's third reading and final passage vote of (29-5) by the N.J. State Senate today.
The second reading of Senate Bill S12 also just passed in a (29-0) vote with Senate Amendment. This Bill 'Revises various aspects of casino industry regulation'. More importantly it states in S12 that "The bill would also require the commission to expeditiously implement Internet wagering when it is permitted under State and federal law".
New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak previously stated that his state would be the "First" to go live with Internet Wagering and it appears he was absolutely correct! Kudos to you Mr. Lesniak and the entire New Jersey State Senate! This legislature should pave the way to open more rational decisions regarding Online Gambling in the United States.
