The Online Casino industry is filled with all sorts of activity at any given time, but recently, the news that's making headlines the most frequently relates to the legalization of online gambling in the USA. Both the general/national legislation and the individual State law bills that are up for discussion and hopefully passage are all hot topics in the online gambling world at the moment.
Recently, many States have been choosing to introduce bills to pass their own online "intrastate gambling" legislation that allows State lottery corporations to mandate the proceedings. There are a number of States that have been looking at passing these types of laws, because while it's still considered illegal in the US by the DOJ for banks to transact money movement between them and online gambling establishments, States are able to take on the responsibility themselves without the federal government being involved. Even with the DOJ's stance
regarding online gambling, it's barely scratched the surface of slowing down the 20 million plus US Players from making and cashing out bets online!
This is a trend that has also begun to take place in Canada too. Only local people are able to play at online casinos that are State-Run once legislation is passed, but it's still better than only having international casinos to choose from that are limiting the ability of US Players to get involved.
Another hot topic is the national law/laws, since the UIGEA has made it difficult for US Players to play at international casinos. While there has been no major progress made; a number of different bills have been up for discussion over the past year in the halls of Congress. Hopes that a good national law regarding online gambling will be presented to the senate and passed are still on a lot of folk's minds, Harrah's included. It's all still a convoluted landscape in the United States as far as national legislation is concerned and who is this week's hero and what the bill details as there are several of them to try to keep track of now.
Recently, New Jersey's Gambling Bill S490/A-2570 was vetoed by Governor Chris Christie and further delayed by the government red tape and processes to get it back to him for reconsideration. There was a lot of petitioning happening in and around New Jersey to try and make Atlantic City the first gambling mecca to legalize online gambling. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens next there.
