Vegas To Attract New Gamblers With 'The Mob'

The Mob Museum
Las Vegas Casino News - Las Vegas has seen a downturn in visitors and gamblers in particular since the recession hurt the US economy. In order to lure people back to gambling in Las Vegas, the city has decided to return to its roots to some degree; playing into their history of crime and the mob.

Ah, the good ole days of "Bugsy Siegel" Of course, Las Vegas is not using the legitimate mob to increase gambling, but they are introducing some attractions that give people a little bit of an old 'Sin City' experience! The mayor is even behind this approach! Later this year, the 'Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement' aka 'The Mob Museum' will open. It will be family oriented, but it hopes it will draw members of the family into the casinos themselves – which of course, occurs as long as visitors make their way into Sin City!

There's also going to be a show experience that will give players more insight into the shady history of Las Vegas, which Las Vegas officials believe is one of the things they're in a position to really play up! They're confident that the decline in gambling activity that began in 2008 will soon be on the rise!

Quote from the "The Mob Museum" Site: Tentative opening Date: December 2011

"The Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement aka The Mob Museum is an interactive museum dedicated to the history of organized crime and law enforcement. The museum presents a bold and authentic view of organized crime's impact on Las Vegas history and its unique imprint on America and the world. The museum presents the real stories and actual events of mob history via interactive and engaging exhibits that reveal all sides of the story about the role of organized crime in the U.S. The Mob Museum offers multiple perspectives and provides a contemporary, engaging, challenging and educational experience".

The museum is located at 300 Stewart Ave. in the heart of the downtown Las Vegas. It is under construction inside an historic former federal courthouse and United States Post Office. This building is one of the last remaining historically significant buildings in Las Vegas and is included on both the Nevada and National Registers of Historic Places.

Nevada May Introduce Online Gambling

There is a strong link between online gambling and land based casinos in the State, because if legalized, online gambling would be regulated by the same governing body that is responsible for the casinos. What the latest proposal suggests is that individuals will have the option to play on their mobile devices and access online casinos. The catch is that when placing their bets, they must be inside a casino resort in order for it to be legal.

Applications would need to be developed to moderate this, and while it may not bring in new people to gamble in the city, it would certainly enhance the experiences of those that are there. In addition to this proposal, there is the potential that online poker will be introduced in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Sands Problems

The Las Vegas Sands has a long history in Las Vegas, but unfortunately, recently that history has been filled with problems. Last year a Sands Casino executive was fired apparently after he failed to carry out illegal activities requested of him. He's recently filed a lawsuit. Because of this issue, stock for the Las Vegas Sands has dropped significantly. In sharp contrast to the above though, the Las Vegas Sands just recently reported record earnings for the first quarter of 2011, primarily due to the company's stronger results in Macau and operations in Singapore.

Players have also commented that some of the reason for the Sands shortfall in Vegas is due to the fact that they stopped comping their casino players and casino players have moved on to properties where they are shown more appreciation, thus causing revenue to fall 46.5 percent and overall earnings getting hammered there!
