Upon it's opening in November 1989, The Mirage Casino Resort was the most expensive built Casino/Hotel in history, with a US$630 million dollar construction cost! The property was built by developer Steve Wynn and designed by Joel Bergman.

The Mirage was also the first resort that was built with the money of Wall Street junk bonds. Another interesting fact is that actual gold dust was used in a tinting process that gives the windows of the Mirage Resort their distinctive gold color.

Penthouse Suite: Located on the top two floors of The Mirage Resort you will find the opulent One & Two Bedroom Penthouse Suite's. These Suites are richly appointed with the finest furnishings and artwork as well as boasting magnificent views of Las Vegas through floor to ceiling windows. In the 1,251 sq. ft. one-bedroom suite, the master bedroom features an impressive canopied king size bed and an upgraded bathroom with exuberant marble accents.

There's a double-sink vanity, a whirlpool bathtub, glass-enclosed shower, illuminated walk-in closet with safe and complimentary Mirage robes and slippers. Double doors open from the bedroom to the spacious living and dining area which feature a large television, VCR, stereo, 5 disc CD player, dining table for 4, and a marble wet bar with refrigerator. "Bare at the Mirage" is a poolside lounge in which guests can perambulate topless and while men are welcome, this attraction is mainly promoted for the women since they are allowed in the lounge for $10–$20 as opposed to the charge paid by men of $20–$40. But hey guys, don't let those few dollars stop you from all the 'eye-candy views' that you will experience at Bare! This is a rare experience for women since in most public places women must have some sort of covering over their breasts.

Bare features an upper deck with an infinity pool and the private VIP area overlooks Mirage's famous dolphin habitat. While lounging in a Daybed or Cabana in the VIP area, guests will enjoy bottle and specialty drink services as well as other food and tropical drink refreshments. Bare offers the ultimate in poolside pampering with its contemporary ambiance and ultra VIP service. The DJ-spun music mix sets a stimulating mood.
